About The Residency :
‘Eitthu’ in Kangri Language translates to ‘Here’. The ‘Here’ is the epicentre for all work to be developed in this period. Selected artists are required to dig into the concept of the word ‘Here’ and relate it with the environment that Baadii is homed in. The ‘here’ that the artist is required to shape in their own ways is somehow expected to form relations with all the communities, the space, the sensory, the geographic and the evolutionary, with all that the artists encounter, while they live and develop work in the Himalayan region of Upper Kangra in Himachal Pradesh. While there are no boundaries on how and what to develop, the only thing that is required of selected artists in this residency is that, whatever work they make, has to establish solid meaning, and a firm relationship with the rural communities that Baadii caters to. The residency which is slotted to last two months will culminate with a month long exhibition of works developed by the artists, here in the village gallery at Baadii.
Logisitics and Details : The residency is open to Indian Artists only. Artists living and working in Himachal Pradesh will be preferred in the application process. There is no fee for the residency and it is not paid. Working studios and basic boarding and lodging with food will be provided to all artists. The artists are required to make their own travel arrangements for this residency. All logistics and material support that is possible in the village will be provided to all artists. Anything beyond that is the artist’s private concern. All works developed in the period will be a part of the Baadii archive and the artists, upon the work’s movement or sale will be provided an equal renumeration. If required, the artists will also be needed to give talks and conduct workshops in the period of this residency, chosen as per theirs and the community’s convenience.
